Hologram at the Swiss Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2024
Challenge
Representing a country at the Venice Art Biennale is one of the most demanding artistic and institutional exercises in the world. For the 2024 edition, the Swiss Pavilion, under the aegis of Pro Helvetia, was to host the project by the artist Guerreiro do Divino Amor, a dense, critical and highly symbolic work questioning political mythologies, national stories and their contemporary staging. The challenge was clear: to give an immersive and intelligible form to a complex artistic universe, without altering its conceptual depth, while being part of an extremely rigorous museum and institutional framework. The installation had to capture the attention of an international audience, while respecting the codes of the Biennale: artistic requirement, narrative coherence and symbolic power.

Concept
The project presented, Super Superior Civilizations, is a continuation of the work of Guerreiro do Divino Amor, developed over more than fifteen years around the Superfictional World Atlas series. The installation deploys a rich visual language, combining historical references, political symbols, pop aesthetics and immersive narration, in order to question the construction of national identities and collective narratives. In this context, immersive technology becomes a storytelling tool, at the service of the work and not the other way around. It makes it possible to reinforce the spectacular and critical dimension of the project, while guiding the visitor through a fluid and structured reading of the proposed artistic universe. The experience is based on a controlled staging, where each visual element contributes to the overall understanding of the subject.

Résultat
Presented from April 20 to November 27, 2024, the Swiss Pavilion impressed visitors with the strength of its visual identity and the clarity of its artistic discourse. The installation made it possible to make a complex reflection on national mythologies accessible, while maintaining a high level of aesthetic and intellectual standards. The project was widely relayed by cultural institutions and the specialized press, underlining the capacity of the pavilion to combine artistic ambition, legibility of the subject and immersive experience. Through this creation, the Swiss Pavilion has established itself as a space for contemporary critical reflection, demonstrating how immersive devices can enrich artistic narration without ever distorting it.
